This is my piece for the Wizard of Oz play. I was inspired by old circus posters and some modern day band tour posters for this piece. The old circus posters never really used images, but always got your attention with the font changes and sizes of the font. That was my goal in this piece. The color scheme was actually a long drawn out process. I asked around 30 people what colors came to mind when they thought of The Wizard of Oz. The general consensus was red, green, yellow, and blue. I eliminated blue due to my inability to make it fit in with the rest of the poster. After I had my color scheme I just had to work on my fonts and the general layout. Photoshop for me was the perfect design tool, if I had to do this by hand, it most likely would be a never ending process. I do like this piece a lot. It catches your eye, and that in all was the main goal. Thursday, March 19, 2009

So, this is my Typography piece. For a while I wasn't sure how I was going to approach this piece, but with my addiction to crackle paint, it didn't take long to figure out it would be in the piece. I love the color scheme, the earthy colors are my favorite. I do wish I had used a few different greens rather than some of the ones I did use, but I think it looks fine still. I was skeptical when the prompt was assigned, but I think it won me over with just the simplicity of it. It took longer than i expected, but in the end I like the final result.

fibonacci
So this is my fibonacci piece. The original idea for this piece was changed once I was brought into the light of crackling paint. The original plan was to do the actual image of the flower in the big blue area, but I fell in love with it the way it is. I didn't have enough time to do the big flower there anyway; so it was for the better. This piece was neat in all, I enjoy fibonacci, so this was good for me. I really like this piece; as I have said before. The only thing I would have done different is add more detailing into the flower; but time didn't permit that. I will most likely finish it up at home to my liking.Friday, January 23, 2009
matisse -
Okay, so this is my Matisse inspired piece and it isn't exactly complete, but it is close enough. The hair is my favorite part, the rest of it I am less than thrilled with, but I suppose it can always be fixed to my liking. I think I am still putting in too much...perfectionism for it to really be considered "expressionism", so I think I may just take a brush and attack it with paint (aka express myself). It was a good lesson, I really enjoyed the prompt and I will probably do more in the future, but probably not of people. I get too over perfectionist on people. So yeah, good lesson, almost good product.
light -
Okay, so this is my piece for use of light. It really isn't anything special at all and there is numerous things I would do different. Apparently I did not find a good method of producing rain, but hopefully in the future I will be able to come up with a better way. The light source was coming up from behind the figure, and I tried to capture that to the best of my ability. It turned out to be a much harder piece than expected. I'm not exactly 100% happy with it, but with some more work I believe I could be. Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Combine -
Okay. This is my combine piece on a controversial issue. I picked the election, and I think its pretty clear what my stance is on it. For this piece I used newspaper pictures, magazine photos, and printed pictures. I printed out the word Change in big letters and painted them white and threw them into the mix to give it the bold look that pretty much threw my opinion out in the open. I am very pleased with this piece overall.

precisionism -
So this is my precisionism piece. It is the stair case by the bus lot. I cannot say that I particularly like this piece, but I guess I don't totally hate it. It was all done in prismacolor pencils. I had a little mishap with the bottom half of the stairs, so its a lot lighter than it should be which throws off the depth in that area a little. When we were first told about this project, I thought it would be easy, "straight lines, how hard can this be?". A lot harder than I thought. I am not particularly a fan of this piece of work, but I suppose its not the worst thing I've ever done. In all it was a good lesson, just not exactly my favorite. Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Synthetic Cubism
Ok, this is my product for the Synthetic Cubism assignment. I used random news paper articles (thank you Brandt's random newspaper cabinet), tissue paper (thank you mom), and acrylic (thank you Otto Rohm). I watered down the green paint a lot to give it a different look that almost could look marble-ish from far away. I used my own guitar for this assignment to make it a little more personal. I went with the stringed instrument to keep it with what Picasso and Braque had started. I took a slight turn to last year in Art III with the "one word" influence. I didn't want the paper to be full of just newspaper articles, so I added the word "beauty" to it for added expression. I did a basic outline on the guitar just to give it some rhyme and reason. In all, I love how this piece turned out.
Gustav Klimt
This is the piece I created for the Gustav Klimt subject. I drew the person from a magazine ad in an old issue of Teen Vogue magazine(How old? May 2007. That old.). I used Marc Jacob's ads for the colored part of her hoodie, and the black and white on the rim of the hood is from a Coach ad. I drew her with Prismacolors. I tried to get her to look as realistic as I could, but I could have done better. The background was done in acrylic paint in colors to go with the magazine ads. In all it was a fun project. I could have used a little extra time, but then again, I'm just a slow worker. So yeah, here is my Gustav Klimt assignment.

Completed Chuck Close
So finally; it is done. It was the most time consuming thing I have ever done; but in the end, I really love how it turned out. I wish I had more time to work on it; but it doesn't look awful so I won't complain too much. The weird spot on my chin makes me upset; I don't know how that slipped my mind to not fix it. In the end it only seemed like it took 4 years and 26 days. It isn't all that pretty looking at it too close up; but from far back it really resembles the picture. The eyes are my favorite part. They were the hardest; but they ended up looking the most realistic. It is crazy how something that starts off looking like it did in my below post; could end up looking like it does now. The only think going through my mind when I started this is "What have I gotten myself into now?". In the end; I am glad I got myself in to this one. haha. By far my favorite art project I have ever done. Which is saying something seeing as I have been in art since Pre-Pre-Kindergarten. Thats 13 years of art and 2 summers in art programs. So yes; this painting is big for me. haha. It is an art breakthrough that I needed. Yeah; way to get off topic. So yes, this art project is by far my favorite. That is really all I have to say for right now.lovelovelove

First Completed Art Project.
Here it is, in all its....glory? Okay, it seemed like a better idea in my head, I admit it, but it's not the worst thing I have ever done. I rubbed two holes in the surface...hence the dark spot on my arm that becomes noticable when you don't look at the picture but see it out of the corner of your eye. Yeah, so lesson learned there. The hair turned out the best, the highlights (that I don't actually have) are popping off the page. There are about a million things I would probably do different next time, but it was a good start to a semester. Any comments you have on this piece are appreciated. lovelovelove, -kristina-
